Kiss, when the devil knocks on the door

Kiss= Keep It Simple Stupid

What devil I`m I talking about, well its the devil that live inside all of us coaches, a devil that wants easy scores, success right now, perfection and exacution like robots. I been coaching kids for 18 years and that devil never leaves, but I have and still hold him in lockup for the last 14 years at least. You might say he`s in deathrow waiting to be exacuted, but the death sentence is never fulfilled.

Patience in development and a understanding why some things work briliant at some ages, maybe not because of your team or that you have the best offense in the world, but simply because of the players age and that they are not ready to solv a staggered screen, flexscreen or other advanced moves in offense at certain ages.

Thats why they work, not because of the exacution, not because its a briliant offense picked by you as a coach, but because of the defensive understanding is not on that level yet because of the age.

KISS and goodnight :-)

Enough with this greedout

"When is enough money enough money? NBA players greedy, million of people are without houses, clothes, food, medicine and many of them dont even got hope. If you asked me 20 years ago and say hell yes give them money, but now with the current money they get already HELL NO! Get over your greed and start playing the game that you used to love!"
Well I put this text on facebook today its really starting to piss of me off. I believe it tragical whats going on I grew up watching NBA when it had class and skilled players not "just" athletic players and most of the great are and will be from that time.

Players like Magic, Jordan, Barkley,  earned so little money even compaired to benchplayers today that almost never see the court except from yeah the bench. Yes it was many years ago but....money in NBA today is already ridiculos.

1984 Salary cap 3,6 million *, Player salary average 330 000*
2007 Salary cap 53,1 million* , Player salary average 5,2 million*
2010 Salary cap  58,04 million *, Players salary average around 6 million *
(* dollars)

I dont care how much the owners make, without the owners there is no NBA.

Play the game you love and instead of demanding more money for yourself demand that the NBA put in a "aid claus" in the contracts, which says that 10% of the salary goes directly to 10 different aid causes by the players choice to make the world a better place.

Worst with this NBA "greedout" is that players are coming to europe for big big money and the aftermaths of that we will find out, but my guesses is that several clubs will have huge money problems in the years to come thanks to the greedy NBA players that "wanna" play in europe.

Players like Tony Parker has risen in my thoughts bigtime, he plays in france for 2000 dollars/month which is a little bit different from what Kobe wants.....Say NO to KObe and the rest that want more than Parker!

I truly hope european clubs have the sponsors backing up the contracts with NBA players especially the big stars if they come or else european basketball will be in ruins in some years, with conseqeunces already next season for some clubs.

How much money is enough money?

Bad times is good

"Horsens landed the second import player for the next season. They agreed on terms of contract with Will Harris (198-F-86, college: Albany). The 24-year-old forward has graduated from the University at Albany in 2010. Will Harris tallied 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game in his senior season. The forward started his pro career in the IBL. He played for the Albay Legends in 2011 season. Will Harris averaged 11.5 points per appearance." from Eurobasket, com

Bad times economically in the basketball world is good for small basketball countries like Denmark I had the privaligue to watch a great import players a week ago in Horsens Will Harris. Its very rare with qualityplayers in the nordic countries although many are hyped bigtime before the arrive they dont live up to the hype.

Will Harris has bright future as a pro and unless some beautiful danish women manages to make him stay in Denmark he will be long gone and go off and make more money and play in better leagues after this season.

Most import players we get to the nordic countries are back up players or complete roll players, some manage to change, but most of them has played as a roll player for so many years and they cant make the transition and the get fired or gets to stay they season out not helping the team very much.

Players like Will Harris is rare, he`s a player that can do it all in offense and also can play defense. The only thing he didn´t show me was leadership, when the team played bad and he let his teammates take way to many shoots. I think he played the whole game, but for like 7-8 minutes he didn`t get to shoot the ball and still he scored with breaking to much sweat over 30points.

Så for some countries bad times moneywise is good, since I dont believe a player like Will Harris would come here in good money times.

Will Harris could average 40+points if his teamates understands how to and when to give him the ball and get f**k out of his way :-)

The rollercoaster ride continues

Well the last year or so has really been a rollercoaster for me, so many ups and downs and laughs and cries. Most people see me almost always smiling and especially in the gym and thats the person I`m, but this last year or so has really demanded good acting skills of me to keep my personality as I wanted and how it normally is.

Almost all problems comes from my injury on 12th of september last year and finally today after 13 months I got the message whats wrong with my shoulder its not good but looks to be something they can fix with a operation, so now its a wait again for 5-6 weeks before a surgeon takes a look at it. Hopefully that will fix the pain I live with 24-7.

Its really starting to get to me mentally and I`m impressed by myself that I have managed to push through the pain for so many months. So many times I have felt like "crybaby" and so many doubting faces I have seen during this last year, when I explain my problems. Its VERY hard for people to understand or feel a injury that they cant see.
They still cant see my injury, they cant feel my pain, but atleast now I know whats wrong and my pain is more real than ever before.

Plain and simple I shouldn´t work with this injury since it keeps the inflamation going and that of course transfers to the rest of the body. I cant count the days when I feel I could sleep forever, after 3-4 days of work, there is nothing left and in practices I squeeze the last out of my body. But not to work is not a option, so I have to push on, but I really hope the operation will fix my problems, so all can get back to normal.

My love for basketball keeps me going, after a tough day/week with the pain a go to practice and forget almost about it, but reminded in practices when I cant show the drill or reach for the ball. Then I feel I cant be the best coach I can be and maybe that sounds silly, but that haunts me bigtime.

The parents for my two teams are a huge supportsystem, they are really trying to help me in so many ways and I will be forever greatful for that. But taking help from others, when you normally are used to manage by your own is very hard and filled with a strange kind of shame. I know it shouldn´t i have helped so many during my 19years as a coach, but still it does.

To ask for help instead of giving help is very very different.

I`m so greatful for the people around me here in Hørsholm and I guess thats really what this blogg is about.
To be succesful or happy call it whatever, you have to have good people around you and I really have that nowdays.

Just like a bad pass often leads to a bad shoot a injury often leads to other problems and it has for me, but deep down I`m a fighter, winner and I WILL NOT let this injury courtesy of the swedish railways defeat me. I WILL win this time also, but this time with help.........and time.

THANKS!

Last post was 30 of August

And since then lots of things has happened, my cellphone has died and resurrected again like someone from the bible. I have with many others managed to arrange the first Boys 98 Pre Season Invitational in the weekend of 2-4 of september. A tournament with 7 invited teams and of course my team from Horsholm Basketball

Winners was 08 Fryhuset from Sweden that also last season was nordic champions.
Runner up was ALBA Berlin from Germany and third place was taken by Norrkoping Dolphins that beat my team for the 3rd spot.

Lots of great games and one reason for that was the level of the refs that I had brought from Poland. They where excellent and held the same level all through the tournament and called it like it should be called. Many refs from Sweden and denmarks could have learned a lot by watching these refs in action.

On sunday at the tournament we managed also to get the Young Coaches Academy started with 3 clinics. Whats new with YCA this season is that it goes out to all new and young coaches in denmark and there was a great turnout at the first with 14 in attendence.

The weekend after the tournament (9-11)I went to Stockholm for a youth tournament with my girls 98 to play with 3 even teams in all 24 of 25 players went on this trip to Blackebergs tournament
We had some great games but also a trip with a Harry Potter train

on our way up to stockholm, the train was from 1960 (no joke I asked) and we where delayed almost 2 hours because of different things, one thing was a lady who had to much time to drink red wine and ambulance had to come. At start from malmoe the train was already 50 minutes late, but thanks to the tournament staff our games in fridat was scheduled later so we got to play them. Everybody was happy with that accept for one ref whom I guess dont have any love for the sport at all and he stressed already stressed girls by almost helping (yelling every 20 second, hurry up) with putting on their shoes.

Great tournament and teams learned a lot I can recomend it.

Guess I`m back :-)

Spain vs France in Eurobasket final, will be a nice game, but cant understand that Russia manged to lose to france, but one answer is of course Tony Parker.

Macedonia with Mchelab thats an upgrade if there ever was one. Warp speed captain, YES sir and *meep* *meep*

Basketball country

Lithuania is a great basketball country a matter of a fact is they call themself "basketballcountry" and soon time for Eurobasket in basketball country it will be a magical atmosphere and I wish I could be there in the middel enjoying Lithuania and their love for basketball.

But I cant afford to go there this year, so I have to admire this basketball celabration from a distance on TV on the net, but thats ok, but not great.

The Lithuanians are crazy in love of Basketball and look at this their TV tower has chenged a little bit for the coming eurobasket 2011.
